Roots of Durrës: Folk Traditions Festival 2025

Dancing and Singing in Durres, Albania 25-29 June

From June 25 to 29, the enchanting coastal city of Durres, Albania, became a stage for the vibrant traditions and mesmerizing performances of folklore ensembles from Poland, Romania, Montenegro, and Lithuania at the Durres Folklore Festival. This spectacular event united talented dancers, musicians, and artists, each bringing their unique cultural heritage to life against the stunning backdrop of Durres’ ancient amphitheatre. The festival culminated in a heartfelt awards ceremony, where all participants were honored with certificates and commemorative gifts, celebrating their dedication and artistry.

Beyond the performances, the artists immersed themselves in Durres’ rich history and breathtaking scenery. They had the extraordinary chance to present their traditions in the magnificent Roman amphitheatre, a 2nd-century marvel, where their melodies and dances resonated through time. Between rehearsals and shows, they relaxed in the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, strolled through the city’s lively markets, and indulged in the delicious flavors of Albanian cuisine.

Excursions took the groups on unforgettable journeys through the region, visiting historic landmarks and scenic spots that showcased Albania’s natural beauty and deep cultural roots. Whether exploring the bustling seaside promenade or discovering hidden treasures in Durres’ charming streets, every moment was filled with wonder and joy.

The Durres Folklore Festival was more than just a showcase of talent—it was a celebration of unity, friendship, and cultural exchange under the golden Albanian sun. As the final notes faded and the last dances came to an end, participants departed with hearts full of pride and cherished memories, forever connected by the magic of Durres and the bonds they forged.
