The festival

The XXXI International Music & Dance Festival OHRID – “CITY OF LIGHT” takes place in Ohrid, North Macedonia. This non-competitive event presents traditional and modern dance and music while promoting international friendship.

Program

Day by day

Thursday 8 July

Arrival in Ohrid

  1. Arrival after 13:00, hotel accommodation and free activities.

  2. Lunch at the hotel for Full Board groups.

  3. Dinner at the hotel.

  4. Welcome reception with group leaders.

  • Accommodation according to the selected hotel and meal plan, depending on the chosen package.
  • Festival participation.

Rules, excursions & practical details

Participation

Eligible Participants

Folklore ensembles, choirs, vocal groups, instrumental groups, soloists, majorette teams, modern dance groups and other performing arts formations from different countries are welcome.

  • Children’s ensembles: at least two-thirds of members must be under 16.
  • Youth ensembles: at least two-thirds of members must be under 25.
  • Adult ensembles: at least one-third of members must be over 25.
  • A maximum of 3 groups per country may participate.
  • Each group may have up to 50 members, including dancers, musicians and managers.
  • Groups must submit a short CV, group photos and the required group information and promotional materials.
  • Groups should bring their national flag.
  • Groups are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the festival.

Insurance & Medical Responsibility

Personal responsibility and health insurance are mandatory. Participating groups must cover first aid and medical services.

Performance & Stage

  • Folklore groups must prepare at least 2 folk dances, each approximately 12–18 minutes long, accompanied by a live orchestra or music on USB.
  • Choirs must prepare 2 programs of 12–18 minutes each, including one a cappella performance in Ohrid’s old town.

Excursions

Optional excursions and activities may include:

  • Ohrid guided sightseeing tour.
  • St. Naum boat trip.
  • St. Naum boat trip with Macedonian traditional food and wine tasting.
  • St. Naum, Ostrovo and Crni Drim Springs boat ride.
  • Horseback riding.
  • Struga.
  • Vevchani.
  • Pogradec, Albania.
  • Skopje and Matka Canyon; groups must arrange their own bus for this excursion.
