The festival

XI International Choir Festival “CHERNOMORSKI ZVUTSI” 2027

Held in Balchik, Bulgaria, the festival brings choirs together for concerts, workshops and a gala programme.

Organized in cooperation with local festival organizations and WOFA – World Festival Association. Official local materials list “Music World Balchik” Association, Community Center “Paisiy Hilendarski – 1870” and Balchik Municipality in connection with festival organization and support.

Thursday — Arrival & Opening

    Arrival in Balchik.

    Registration at the Festival Centre – Community Centre “Paisii Hilendarski – 1870”.

  3. Earliest hotel check-in and free time.

  4. Official Opening Ceremony and First Festival Concert at 21st September Square; in bad weather, at Community Centre “Paisii Hilendarski – 1870”.

  5. —

    After the concert, parade of all participants from the stage to the Yacht Port.

  6. Cocktail party for conductors, jury members and guests.

Stay & prices

Accommodation packages

Price includes

  • Standard accommodation packages include 3 nights and 3 breakfasts.
  • The organizers provide dinner for all participants on the day of the Gala Concert.
  • The organizers cover the cocktail party on the final festival evening.

Not included

  • Accommodation, transportation and regular meal expenses are borne by participating choirs, apart from the package and organizer-provided items specified as included.
  • Lunch and/or dinner may be arranged additionally on request at extra cost.
  • Entrance fees, transportation and optional sightseeing activities are not included unless otherwise agreed.
  • Bank transfer charges are borne by the participating choir.

Accommodation is available in several categories in Balchik, including 3-star and 4-star properties in resort, coastal and promenade areas.

Booking & Payment Terms

Choirs submitting their application and paying the participation fee by 31 December of the previous year receive a 10% discount on that fee.

Choirs or choir members arranging accommodation independently must pay a four-times higher participation fee.

Accommodation Pricing Notes

  • Children up to 16 years old can be accommodated for €91 per child in 2-, 3- or 4-bed rooms.

  • Adult accommodation prices range from €95 to €210 per person, depending on the selected category.

  • Extra nights are available according to the same accommodation price list and selected category.

  • Tourist tax and free-place conditions are not specified.

Rules, excursions & practical details

Participation

Who Can Apply

Bulgarian and international non-professional choirs and vocal groups of all categories are welcome, including mixed, chamber, male, female, youth, children’s and folk choirs. There is no age limit.

Participation & Repertoire

  • Each choir must participate in the festival workshops.
  • The main concert programme must include one work representing the choir’s national musical culture and one work by a Bulgarian composer.
  • The Gala piece and additional-concert repertoire may be the same as or different from the main programme.

Categories & Awards

  • Participants may choose the non-competitive Festival Category or the jury-evaluated Competition Category.
  • The prize fund is €2,000, including the Grand Prix and special awards for participating choir categories.
  • The Grand Prix includes a gold-plated “Chernomorski Zvutsi” statuette and a cash prize.
  • If there are more than three choirs in a category, the jury may determine a winner in that category.
  • Children’s choirs compete for the special “Future of Europe” Diploma and a cash prize.
  • Folk choirs participate in a separate competition programme.

Acceptance & Media Rights

Submitting an application confirms acceptance of the festival terms and regulations. The organizers retain rights to festival performances and may use audio, video, photographic and other materials for promotional, publication and broadcasting purposes without additional obligations to participants.

Performance & Stage

  • Prepare a 15–20 minute main concert programme.
  • Prepare approximately 10 minutes of repertoire for additional concerts.
  • Prepare one piece for the Gala Concert.

Discover Balchik

Choirs can use their free time to explore Balchik and the surrounding Black Sea coast. Recommended attractions include:

  • The Palace of Queen Marie.
  • Balchik Botanical Garden.
  • Balchik seaside promenade.
  • The town’s historical and cultural attractions.
  • Optional visits to nearby Black Sea destinations and Varna.
